William Cox
William Cox, was proprietor of the British Gallery of Art, 57 Pall Mall. [p166 Webster's 1869]. It appears that the gallery became insolvent in 1884. He is of interest because, in a sale by Farebrother, Lye & Palmer of 13th July 1882, he auctioned JMW Turner's 'Battle of the Nile'. The Farebrother catalogue shows a full description with dimensions and states that it was previously in the Woolner collection. 'Battle of the Nile' previously appeared in Leonard Huskinson's sale of 27th April 1864. [Catalogue extract]...[Analysis]
