ELLA BEATRICE T BAILEY (1889-1972)

Born Ella Beatrice T Hornsby-Drake, married Francis H Bailey in 1913 (registered St George's Hanover Square)
Ella B T died died age 83; her death was registered at Mere, near Salisbury, Wiltshire. (Drake Family)

Ella B T was the second and only surviving child of Ella Katherine and Alfred Weston Hatchall Hornsby-Drake. (Their first daughter was Ella Dora who died aged 15). Ella Katherine died in 1930 and her husband died in 1932. It is possible therefore that in the first instance Alfred inherited the unsold part his wife's collection (which at the time of writing the evidence suggests included at least four miniatures). Ella B T could have inherited direct from her mother or indirectly from her father following his death. There is a small possibility that Alfred could have bequeathed pictures to another surviving family member (nephews, neices etc.) but at this time there is no evidence for that.

The present conclusion is therefore that Ella B T Bailey inherited pictures by 1932 (aged 43) which may have included the four miniatures for which we have, at present, no evidence of sale. At present we have no evidence of disposal of 'The Rising Squall' and it is therefore possible that between 1930 and, say, 1933 it passed into the posession of Ella B T.

A list of addresses for Ella B T and Francis H Bailey will show places where 'The Rising Squall' may have been abandoned.
