In this presentation we show that an oil painting which we have named 'Squall from St. Vincent's Rock, Bristol' is the lost JMW Turner picture 'The rising squall, hot wells, from St. Vincent's rock, Bristol' one of two 'St. Vincent Rock oils' exhibited R.A. 1793.

and that misinformation that it is a watercolour is persistent; including otherwise respectable sources such as the Tate Gallery. This work was exhibited RA 1793, and the evidence that it was an oil painting is here.
(The same also for 'View on the River Avon, near St. Vincent's Rock, Bristol'; misrepresented as a 'watercolour, scraping out and pen and ink on paper' on the Tate website now thankfully removed but meanwhile picked up by other websites and AI.)
