Definitive Event Dates 1791-1793
A study to determine definitive dates for events related JMW Turner from 1791 to 1793. March delivery dates for the exhibitions are approximate and could be as late as mid April.
More definitive dates are shown in Finberg (1939) and these two sets of information will be merged as soon as possible.
1791
During this year JMW Turner visited the Narraways (Bristol Tour) and
compiled his 'Bristol and Malmesbury' Sketchbook. The sketchbook is dated
by an inscription on
D00104.
He completed two works which remained in Bristol with the Narraway
family:
1792 (January)
14th January 1792: The fire at the Pantheon, Oxford Street. Turner's
watercolour-drawing, 'The Pantheon, the morning after the fire' was
exhibited at the 1792 RA Exhibition No. 472 in the Antique Room. Its size:
15" x 20".
1792 (March)
Turner delivered two works to the Royal Academy for the 1792
Exhibition. Their titles were recorded in Graves' 'List of Contributors'
vol 8 page 33:
