There were two works by John Rogers Herbert (1810-1890) at the Winstanley, 1852-04-20/21, John Clow sale. This the same sale that was the source of Cattermole's 'The Hawking Party'. However, he painted mainly portraits, religious & historical.
Alfred Herbert (died 1861) seems likely as he painted marine scenes in watercolour including coastal scenes of Devon etc.

• Joseph Hornung (1792-1870) 'Catherine Di Medici with the Head of Coligny' is an oil at V&A (accession No. 1381-1869).
  The V&A (oil on small panel) was in the posession of Rev. Chauncey Hare Townsend 1868 when it was bequeathed to the V&A. This therefore cannot be Berthon's picture auctioned 1891.

  However, there is an 1833 watercolour version at Yale B.1975.4.1368.
  (Note: the small Yale/Mellon, J.M.W. Turner, 'St. Augustine's Gate, Canterbury' is B.1975.4.1764)
  Mellon's Cordova definitely has a counterpart in the Preston/Berthon collection which greatly supports the supposed Berthon provenance for the small 'St. Augustine's Gate')
