The Two Rochester Canvases

The first oil
Nephews letter makes it clear that very first canvas remained with the Douglas Family. We traced it to two auctions and to the first mention of 'Rochester Castle' in Miller (and Joseph Hogarth). None of these mentioned fishermen, boats or storm.
The second oil - or the oil started at Rochester and finished at Foots Cray
Miller's footnote describes a picture with the gale of wind in the
posession of Nixon
Francis Russell Nixon records tha belief that his father posessed
Turner's first oil (but assigns his comment to the wrong picture) - we
have not located a further sighting of this one yet.
