Last documented location was at Christie's when it was sold to Reynolds on 9th July 1864
It has been established that the picture was bought in on 9th July 1864. It was therefore in the possession of the seller, Joseph Hogarth, thereafter. Lines of enquiry shown below were examined in great detail and there was no trace of the picture beyond 9th July 1864. Joseph Hogarth seems to have been in possession of it until his death and the indication is that the picture was hidden rather than abandoned at Paxton House, Station Road, West Drayton; the house where Joseph Hogarth was living at the time of his death.
