JMW TURNER
DOUGLAS FAMILY - RICHARD WILLIAM GLODE (Glover) DOUGLAS (1798-1862 ?)
The family of the Rev. James Douglas who, in Rochester, in 1792, encouraged JMW Turner to work in oil on canvas.
At douglashistory.co.uk Richard is recorded as 'Richard William Glode Douglas' born Godmanchester, Suffolk, England; Godmanchester is in Cambridgeshire!. The FreeReg record his baptism is shown at Chiddingfold, Surrey. The baptism of a previous child, James Edward Moreton Douglas, was registered at Chiddingfold in 1794; this suggests that the FreeReg entry is likely to be more reliable. However, the third forename is undoubtedly 'Glode'; his aunt, Martha neé Oldershaw was Lady Glode married to Sir Richard Glode.
