JMW TURNER
Picture, 'Self Portrait age 16' painted by JMW Turner (1792)
Canvas
If 'Self Portrait age 16' is genuine and has not been relined or
tampererd with:
The canvas on 'Squall at St Vincent's Rock, Bristol' should be the same as the canvas on 'Self Portrait age 16'
Clearly there are a lot of 'ifs'. The Rochester canvas theory explains how four oils were painted in a very short period of time but the evidence is circumstantial. If our canvas matches the Indianapolis canvas then the Rochester canvas theory would be very likely and our picture fully identified.
If our canvas does not match the Indianapolis canvas then there are many other scenarios to consider but because our picture is identified by its relationship to JMW Turner's D00389 a mismatch does not rule out our picture's claim to be 'The rising squall, hot wells, from St. Vincent's rock, Bristol'.
Notes on claims that 'Self Portrait age 16' has been repainted
