Hobart Town (Tasmania) Exhibition 1845

Pictures from the collection of Rev. Dr. Francis Russell Nixon, shown in the catalogue as 'Lord Bishop of Tasmania' were displayed at this exhibition. There was another Hobart Town exhibition in 1858.

Hobart Colonial Times, 11th January 1845

On the left is an extract from the 'trove' website; a similar extract from the original printed newspaper is on the right. 'Landscape', No. 33, is not mentioned in this report but there is a description of 'View of Snowdon', No. 39. No.34 is another of Bishop Nixon's oils, Guido Reni's 'St. Sebastian'; it is said to be 'an original', in this press cutting, that cost £500 in Italy indicating that this was not a painting that Bishop Nixon inherited from his father.
