DANBY

These are some misc facts gathered about the Danby family.

Hannah Danby (c.1786 - 15th Dec 1853)

There has been speculation that there was a Hugh Danby but it is more likely that this is a misreading of 'Hannah'

John Danby and maybe Sarah Danby (neé Goose) - Sarah was Hannah's aunt.

Richard Danby, John Danby's brother, is named as Hannah's father on Transcription of will provided by Judith Smith

In her will signed 7th December 1853, Hannah names the 'Self Portrait Age 16' as

In 1846 Turner moved in, with Mrs Booth and her son John Pound, to 6 Davis Place, Chelsea.
(This from various sources including Tate)

So in 1846 Hannah, age 60, was left living alone at 47 Queen Anne Street, Harley Street. In the 1851 census she is aged 64 and sole occupant.
Thus 1846 is a likely date for the gif6t of the portrait by Turner to Hannah.
Turner had first employed her at Queen Anne Street in 1809, age 23.
