This is in Graves (our No.15901) Seller: May and Co. (802X); bought
in at £115/10/-
Graves places it in July 1st, second day's sale, but clearly it was
in the first day.
The same picture appears again (15913) 1873-03-01; seller: May and
Co.; lot 70; buyer Col. Grant £71/8/-
...and again when Col. Grant sold it to 'Lesser' 1882-05-27.
J. M. W. TURNER, R.A.
91 ROCHESTER CASTLE. Painted for the late Rev. J. Douglas, of
Rochester, Chaplain to the Prince of Wales
Corrections from machine reading include the initial corrected from T
to J.
This picture may have sold at this sale because, unlike lot 90, it
does not appear in Christies 1873-03-01.
Lots 52 to 126 the end of first day's sale seem to be a separate property and appears to be 'May and Co.'.
