This is ongoing research. Each entry is given a a rating: CERTAIN, PROBABLE or POSSIBLE. The purpose of attempting a reconstruction of the collection is to help find the destination of 'The rising squall, hot wells, from St. Vincent's rock, Bristol'.

In order of aquisition.

1792(cannot have been painted at Foots Cray - Turner had become distracted by oil)
St. Augustine's Gate Canterbury, watercolour - the small version
POSSIBLE - by Turner painting it at Foots Cray and leaving it with Nixon HOWEVER it now appears more likely that Turner left this with someone in Margate or Canterbury or with Rev. Douglas in Rochester.
Mellon
In the same way, following the same pattern, as the Courtauld Watercolour (1791 at the Narraways) here in 1792 Turner stays with Nixon and paints the small version leaving it in Foots Cray. To investigate whether this followed the American RouteMellon.
on 08_61 Armstrong: 1793 Canterbury Exhibit is on p245 20.5x16 and at the christies sale of 1874 Tite(Redford p180); also exh (Tite) BF AC 1871 & RA 1873. BothCanterbury watercolours went to America (Mellon) but they did not go together or at the same time..

If owned by Nixon then assume sold by 1864.
Owned and exhibited by Tite as a minimum 1871 to 1874
There were two versions of this picture, the exhibition version at 20.5"x 16" and a smaller version. Armstrong p245 gives information about this the bigger version including a sale by Sir William Tite in 1874.
The pattern is outlined above. Both versions of this subject definitely went to America.
Although circumstantial, there is a strong suggestion that Nixon owned both watercolours and they and Waggoners left via Reynolds(1864),-'Drake catalogue says he purchased Waggoners from Bishop Nixon'-Drake(1891) and the American RouteMellon

PROBABLE ownership of an oil but unexplained claim that it was the 1796 Council Room exhibit. This was the year of the second oil exhibit, 'Fishermen at Sea'
Huskisson sale
There is no further trail. Information from e-mails (thekingscandlesticks) is being processed. Other possible name is 'Waltham Cross'. There is no onward chain. Remains lost.
