AGNEW'S PICTURE STOCK BOOK 1891-1898

JMW TURNER

This document was found on internet archive. It is a handwritten book and difficult to navigate due to visually weak scans, illegible handwriting and misplaced pagenation (scans presented on the right are in fact left side pages of the ledger, whilst the right side pages are presented on the left but displaced onto the next pdf page)

It is called 'Picture' Stock Book - these are probably oils

The purpose of examining this document was to establish any 'sightings' of 'The Rising Squall' (or any small oil precursor). As this document is oils only it has no impact on the associated watercolours. No references to 'The Rising Squall' were found. 6630, [6903 and 7674 are the same (Bannister) picture] require further analysis.

There are more than 100 pages with approx 20 entries per page. JMW Turner entries are extracted below. Prices are coded - the only definite decode at Feb 2020 is ttt=777!. pdf page numbers do not match the written page numbers so both are recorded the pdf page in ()s. The written stock numbers provide the best system of order and appear first for each entry in the list. Entries are not fully completed and will be updated if a transaction becomes 'of interest' (eg 7674 was of interest until it became clear that it was the Bannister picture.)

References from other contributors appear in 'Comments'. These references currently include similar titles which may be different pictures and also some drawings are noted. They remain not analysed or sorted because (with the possible exception of 6630 and 6903) these pictures are not of interest.
