Concert Overture for Orchestra
Composer's Note
A supporter of Southampton Concert Orchestra commissioned this work in
1993, and wished it to be a reflection of life in its contrasting stages
of certainty and uncertainty. With this in mind I have tried to show
within the work some of the harsh realities which bring unrest, as well as
the serenity we all hope for. The work resolves with the main theme
appearing as one of triumph over adversity.
As it may be thought of as a journey through life, I chose the title "Voyage"
since the first ideas were thought of and jotted down in a small dingy off
Dell Quay near Chichester.
