Printing From Your Browser

Printing a 'Print From Home' copy requires the correct margins to be set for your browser and printer. There are many different combinations and you may need to experiment to find settings that are right for you.

Some browsers have a 'Shrink To Fit' option and if so we recommend using it. Top, bottom, left and right margins then need to be set to place the printed music area on an A4 page. Music was traditionally printed as Vocalscore (10" x 7") or Instrumental (12" x 9") so you are setting margins and/or magnification % to fit these sizes onto A4 paper.

For these two sizes we provide here technical details to help you to get the best results from your combination of hardware and software.

Alternative: Downloading Images and Print Using Commercial Software

As an alternative to printing from your browser you can download .jpg images (typically: right click the image and use 'Save Picture As' function) and use commercial printing software (eg: Quark Xpress).

Settings and Image Details

Keep a record of your settings, they should be the same for anything you print from this site.

Vocalscore 10" x 7"

Printing on A4 and using 'shrink to fit'

Print appears approximately the same size as original vocal score:
Margins: Top=25mm, Bottom=20mm, Left=20mm, Right=20mm
Print fills the A4 page:
Margins: Top=5mm, Bottom=5mm, Left=5mm, Right=5mm

In the.htm file each page image is framed with:

Width = 975 dots and Height 1388 dots.

The native image size, held as a .jpg file on this server is:

Width = 1950 dots and Height = 2775; scanned at 300dpi.

Orchestral & Instrumental 12" x 9"

Printing on A4 and using 'shrink to fit', you should make the print area as large as possible.
Set the Bottom, Left and Right Margins to 5mm, then
Find a setting for the top margin between 5mm and 20mm which places the printed music centrally on the page.

In the.htm file each page image is framed with:

Width = 1020 dots and Height 1350 dots.

The native image size, held as a .jpg file on this server is:

Width = 2550 dots and Height = 3375; scanned at 300dpi.
